Sedatives and hypnotics drug

Classification :
* benzodiazepines
* non benzodiazepines

Benzodiazepines type:
(on the basis of duration of action)

*short acting drug (3-8 hour)
midazolam
triazolam
 



*intermediate acting drugs (10-20 hours)
alprazolam, estrazolam, lorazepam, temazepam, bromazapam, oxazepam, clobazepam

*long acting drugs (40-100 hours)
diazepam, chlordiazepoxide,flurorozepam,nitrazepam.

Nonbenzodiazepines / Barbiturates:

*ultra short acting
thiopental sodium

*short acting
pentobarbital, secobarbital

*intermediate acting
amobarbital, butabarbital

*long acting
phenobarbital, phenobarbitone

from all of these drugs,
*short acting benzodiazepines use as anasthetics agents.
*intermediate acting benzodiazepines use as hypnotics agents.
*long acting benzodiazepines use as sedative agents.
