Def:cartilage is a specialized form of connective tissue which consists of
1.chondrocytes[cells]
2.extra cellular matrix [collagen and elastic fibers]
*Actually cartilage develop from mesenchymal cell
Structure of Cartilage:
*Cells
* chondrocytes,
chondroblasts
*Extracellular Matrix
* Fibers(collagen and elastic)
* Ground Substance
[Glycosaminoglycans
--Hyaluronic acid
--Chondriotin sulphate
--Keratan sulphate]
*Proteoglycans
* Glycoprotein
*Water
Classification:
*Hyaline Cartilage
*Elastic Cartilage
*Fibrocartilage
Hyaline Cartilage:
example:
*costal cartilage
*Articular Cartilage
*Laryngeal Cartilage
*Epiphyseal Plate of Growing long bone
Elastic Cartilage:
example:*Pinna of external Ear
*External Auditory tube
*Eustachian Tube
*Epiglottis
easily {EEE}
Fibrocartilage:
example:*Intervertebral discs
*Pubic Symphisis
*Tempero mandibular Joint
*Sterno clavicular joint
*The Basic Differences between three types of cartilage is
*Hyaline cartilage ---Bluise white
*Fibrocartilage--------Dense white
*Elastic Cartilage ----Yellow
**Calcification occurs only Hyaline cartilage , Elastic Cartilage (rare)
**Type 2 collagen fiber found in Elastic Cartilage and Hyaline Cartilage
but Type 1 collagen fiber is found in fibro cartilage .....
